Disney vs. DeSantis is so funny because it’s like. Neither side even wanted to get into this. Here’s how it’s supposed to go: Politician does something stupid. Corporation disavows politician after public pressure. Politician disavows the disavowing. Nothing changes for either party.

But then the Florida governor got stars in his eyes. He saw an opportunity to bolster his standing before the presidential primary. He wanted to be the one who took on The Mouse and won. So in retaliation he decides he’s going to tear down the decades-old agreement Disney uses to govern Disney World’s district.

And just like that, Disney’s batshit insane legal department turns towards Florida like the Eye of Sauron spotting the ring at Mount Doom. They smell lost profit. They smell blood.

Disney will use any and every strategy they’ve accumulated over the last century of lobbying congress and DeSantis can’t back down lest he admit Mickey Mouse beat his ass. He’s lost control of Disney World’s district even more than he already did. Now he’s getting sued.

This all started because Disney was pressured into backtracking their political contributions to Florida and disavowing the Don’t Say Gay law. Now they’re fighting for something they actually care about: their profit margin. Disney is not an ally to queer people and they’re an enemy to progressives, but damn am I rooting for them to keep humiliating the greater evil for the time being. This is high comedy.

this is, of course, where the tumblr revamp would always lead. Just in time for Pride month, the “Queerest Place on the Internet” is attempting to crack down on fags like us for self-identifying with slurs, rather than doing something beneficial like reducing the large ever present transphobe/terf population. Advertiser friendly is the name of the game and I’m sure in a few years this site will be identical to every other sterile neutered social media site available. Have fun while it lasts folks.

Tumblr will automatically switch to the “stuff for you” without me realizing and every time I’m thinking “wow everyone I follow sucks big time”

ok but status notes on who’s online are literally meaningless to me. I will send you my thoughts as they occur to me and you can respond whenever it’s fine

Former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer reveals she regrets buying Tumblr instead of Netflix or Hulu. Yahoo bought Tumblr in 2013 for $1.1 billion, but by the time it was sold in 2019, the value of the platform was reportedly down to $3 million. pic.twitter.com/YfH5dpL4Kf — Pop Base (@PopBase) May 7, 2023ALT

And why did the value plummet, Marissa? Why did it plummet?

I’m know I’m not the first person to say this, but any newbies on tumblr really need to understand how different this is from a lot of other social media. Particularly tiktok.

I just saw a creator on tiktok reminding followers that it’s actually a problem when someone goes back to the earliest post and watches all the posts chronologically, liking and commenting along the way. The stupid app recognizes it as spam or something and then kinda puts a halt on their account? Literally punishing people for positive engagement?? 🥴🤦‍♀️

I’ve already heard people saying years back how they don’t want to be “creepy” and go through a persons blog, liking and reblogging tons of stuff. But think how many more people are going to be worried about it now, thinking they might do actual damage! Most people, especially younger people, are so used to the way tiktok works now. So please, do not ever worry about this on here. Just remember-

You will never do any harm if you go on a like and reblog fest through someone’s tumblr blog! The only risk you’re taking is to make the blog owner weep for joy!! 😭🤣

This website literally passes around posts that are so old, the newest comments are celebrating things like “Happy 10th anniversary to this post!” sometimes.

The worst that usually happens is a creator going “wait, what, HOW did you find that 7 year old post that had no tags buried in the depths of my blog?”, very few people actually get mad about it (and from what I’ve seen, the people who do are all entirely immigrants from socmed sites like TT where they have entirely different cultures about it.)

Tumblr itself is based around longevity in many ways.  So, just have at it.  Have fun.  If you like that post 12,000 pages deep on my blog, GO FOR IT.  That’s what this website is all about

Spoilers discourse reminds me how on my part of Tumblr it was customary to tag live reaction posts and list the spoilers tag before episodes aired so your followers could temporarily blacklist it. That's how a civilized website functions — Kat Tenbarge (@kattenbarge) April 11, 2023ALT

look at us being called a civilized website on other social media

absolutely loving the tags being baffled that other sites dont know how to tag spoilers

twitter is like. DNI with me unless you are a perfect clone of me. and tumblr is like. hi. you share exactly one interest with me. would you like to subliminally influence each other’s thought patterns through funny text posts until we develop a hive mind? yeah? cool.
